Kian has been doing "karate" since he saw the Karate kid. He kept asking us to take classes so we decided after he finished soccer that we would take him and see how he liked it. He was very excited. They had a trial where you got 1 private class and 2 group classes and a uniform for $20 dollars so we decided to do it. He loves it and at the risk of sounding like a bragging mom he is actually really good at it. I can only compare him to the other kids in the class but he takes it so seriously and is really focused on what he should be doing. The other moms were making comments and telling me "he is really good" so I guess thats a good sign. We went ahead and signed him up for regular classes and he is now on his way to becoming a black belt one day.
Our motivation is two fold really because he has been getting in trouble at school for fighting with the other kids...not really fighting but there is a group of them that is always rough housing and we are hoping that this will help teach him discipline while reinforcing that he can't use it at school. So far that part isn't working...
